AWD Bell Housing - Ford Focus XR5 / ST225

This AWD bell housing is a direct replacement for the factory Ford Focus XR5 (ST225) bell housing and is a key component required when converting an XR5 gearbox to all wheel drive.

The bell housing provides the mounting points for the transfer case, allowing power to be transferred to the rear drivetrain. Without this bell housing there is no provision for mounting the transfer case.

The most common conversion uses:

• Original XR5 gearbox passenger side half casing and gear set
• Quaife S60R differential
• This AWD bell housing

Together, these components create an AWD-compatible gearbox ready for use with the appropriate transfer case and driveline components.

Compatibility:

This bell housing is identical to the unit fitted from the factory on the Mk2 Focus RS.

If you already have a Mk2 Focus RS gearbox, the bell housing does not need to be changed. Instead, the differential can be replaced with one compatible with the Volvo collar sleeve kit and the appropriate driveshaft setup.

Installation Notes:

• Compatible with the factory clutch assembly.
• Compatible with the factory concentric slave cylinder and clutch bleeding tube.
• The factory gearbox torque mount can be retained; however the AWD torque mount linking arm is required.

Recommended During Installation:

As the gearbox must be disassembled to install the bell housing, replacing all gearbox bearings while it is apart is strongly recommended. At a minimum the differential bearings should always be replaced.

The gearbox casing should be reassembled using RTV silicone gasket maker, as per the factory sealing method.

Condition & Optional Glass Blasting

This is a genuine preowned OEM bell housing that has been carefully disassembled from a used gearbox.

In its original condition the bell housing will typically show signs of previous use including oil and grime residue, surface oxidation and general cosmetic wear expected of a used aluminium component.

For customers wanting a cleaner more presentable finish an optional glass media blasting service is available for an additional $150.

After glass media blasting the bell housing will have a clean, uniform finish similar to the product shown in the listing photos - making it ideal for installation as is or for painting. While glass blasting dramatically improves the appearance, please note that this is still a used component. Minor cosmetic imperfections, casting marks and signs of previous use may still be present and should be expected.

The improvement in appearance is significant and provides a far cleaner more professional looking component than its original used condition.

Important: If you choose the optional glass media blasting service, it is the customer's responsibility to thoroughly clean both the inside and outside of the bell housing before installation. Fine glass media dust may remain in internal cavities and on external surfaces. The bell housing should be carefully cleaned prior to assembly to ensure no residual media enters the gearbox or other drivetrain components.
